Medium grain size or ultra-fine grain size? Let’s find the differences to choose for the best!

We are going to analyse here a crucial element in the choice of the right anti-shock tile: the difference between medium grain size and ultra-fine grain size. Specifically, we are talking about the type of grain size of the SBR grains, used to create the anti-shock tiles for gym flooring, fitness areas or playgrounds. The different size of the granules influences the structure itself, the aesthetics and the performance of the tiles.
For this reason, it is very important to get informed in advance, so as to choose the most fitting solution for your needs.

The medium grain size is made with SBR recycled rubber crumbs (out of end-of-life tires) less than 3 mm; it offers a good drainage, so it is ideal for the use outdoor. Its rough surface guarantees an excellent adherence, but it may require a more difficult cleaning.

The ultra-fine grain size is made with an SBR powder less than 1 mm. This gives to the product a “velvety” and compact aspect to the tile’s surface. It is frequently used for indoor use, due to its more refined aesthetic, together with an easier to clean surface (since it is less rough). The wear resistance is also higher.

Both the materials follow the same production process, but it is the grain size that determines their crucial differences.

The choice between the two products depends from the specific exigencies of the project, as well as from the environmental conditions and final use. For this reason there is not a better version than the other. It is possible to choose the most appropriate product according to your needs.
